Position:                Director of Development, Development Ministry


The Director of Development is responsible for directing the development and acquisition of financial, material and human (volunteer) resources needed to operate the ministries of the City Rescue Mission. As such, the Director of Development is responsible to diligently challenge and aid employees in the Development Ministry in developing and implementing strategies to further the Ministry’s mission.

Reporting Relationships:

The Director of Development reports to the Executive Director.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee the day to day operations of the Development Ministry.
  • Develop and implement yearly fundraising plan, including direct mail and telemarketing plans for cultivation of existing donors, acquisition of new donors and re-engagement of existing donors.
  • Establish and implement a planned giving strategy including online resources, solicitations and communication materials for planned giving products.
  • Establish and supervise a solicitation/communication strategy for in-kind gifts, including in-kinds drives for coffee, hygiene products, school supplies and food.
  • Edits and approves all donor communication materials including Director’s Circle and ightkeepers letters, Lighthouse Newsletters, direct mail solicitation, brochures, website copy, donor correspondence letters, postcards, receipt language, etc.
  • Analyze donor responses to continually evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns to develop future mail and solicitation strategies. Extracts mailing and call lists as needed.
  • Act as donor data base manager to ensure the quality of the information, approve all coding and segmentation codes.
  • Establish policies and procedures for volunteer selection and retention as well as supervise volunteer activities. Oversee completion of paperwork and prepare monthly volunteer reports.
  • Approve, oversee and direct all public relation, marketing and promotional activities including: press releases, social media posts, open houses, advertisements, video production, speaking engagements, etc.
  • Responsible for evaluating staff performance and will maintain written evaluation reports.  Will also maintain records of any disciplinary action required.
  • Responsible to see that all Development Ministry staff are fully trained so as to perform their assigned duties.  Also is responsible to see that staff training is carried on in a continuing manner so as to improve overall staff performance.



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business (required), Master’s Degree or CFRE Certification preferred.
  • 5–plus years professional fundraising experience, preferably in Christian ministry.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate in a concise and persuasive manner.  

  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial and financial analysis skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and make decisions. Must be able to work on multiple projects all at the same time

  •  Data management experience utilizing a relational database system. Knowledge of DonorPerfect (or similar) donor database system preferred.

  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and be committed to furthering the City Rescue Mission’s mission as a faith-based organization. 
  • Agree to uphold the Mission’s statement of faith.
  • Be willing to submit to and honor the standards outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Code of Conduct.
  • Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Mission’s
